What accomplishment in your product management career has brought you the highest level of satisfaction and joy? Can you narrate why?

I have conceptualized  and developed some of the classic products based on emerging technologies in  enterprise and telecom domains which helped customers to solve their problems  and my organizations to found new revenue streams.

What aspect of product management did you struggle the most with? How did you overcome it?

I see  achieving stakeholder alignment, getting engineers on the same page, and  overcoming objections are critical factors for product development life cycle. However, I believe that defining the priorities and continuous collaboration are useful tools to  resolve lot of these issues.

What's one common myth about product management that you find common among aspiring PMs?

I have seen that the  aspiring PM's consider product management is the same at every company.  However it is not true. Product Management is not limited to only UI/UX,  however it is beyond that. Every industry has its own rules, target market  areas & customer mindsets. To be successful in the high pace environment  one should give more emphasize on these aspects.

What are some common pitfalls that product managers must be aware of?

There are three  :  not having consolidated product  strategy -which addresses customer inputs, accommodate market research and  aligned with organization vision , overlooking market research, and not  developing saleable products.

If not product management, what career would you have picked? Are there any complimentary skillsets that you see between being a PM and your alternate choice?

If not product  management, then I would have been a business strategist. The skills such as  strategic thinking, long-sightedness and negotiation are common skills  between the two roles.

What is something about product management that you wish you knew when you started out?

The stakeholder  management and commercial sense are two very critical aspect of product  management. I spent time on understanding these aspects during my initial  days of product management which has helped me to grow as product leader in  high tech industry.
